Details of 'Gainful Use of TSA 2022 Materials' STAR Online Mode (Updates on 23 May 2022)

For details of the overall arrangements of ‘Gainful Use of TSA 2022 Materials’, please refer to EDB's 'Assessment for Learning' webpage.

Schools opting for ‘Gainful Use of TSA 2022 Materials’ STAR Online Mode can refer to the following information about the arrangements and support.

About STAR Online Mode

  • STAR Online Mode is applicable to all subjects and sub-papers (except for the Writing sub-paper of language subjects);
  • Students’ submitted answers will be marked by the STAR platform automatically;
  • Schools can view students’ real-time submission status. Schools can also obtain feedback on early August, while students can view their individual report;
  • Schools may use the centralised broadcasting feature for the whole level / class to take the listening assessment(s) simultaneously in the language subject(s). Please click here for more details of the centralised broadcasting.
  • This year, Primary 6 and Secondary 3 Chinese Language Listening Papers will have versions specially designed for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students, so that schools can arrange their NCS students to participate more easily, and those papers will also be distributed according to the information submitted by schools to HKEAA.

Flow of STAR Online Mode

1. Preparation before the assessment

A. Submit reply slip and participation details

  • On the HKEAA’s online form, select the desired dates, mode and subjects of assessment materials.

B. Confirm Assessment Administration Coordinator details

  • Assessment Administration Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the participation arrangement within the school and sharing reports to the related teachers. Please click here to confirm the Assessment Administration Coordinator’s EdCity teacher account details.

C. Check accounts and equipment

  • School Administrators should update their teacher and student account information through EdCity’s ‘School Accounts Administration System’, and distribute the account information to the teachers and students;
  • Check the school’s WiFi network and corresponding equipment (e.g. computers / tablets / students’ BYOD devices / audio system for centralised broadcasting / computers are equipped with an input method suitable for students).

D. Conduct trial assessment

E. Check assessment materials

  • The system will directly distribute the assessment materials to the teacher and student accounts;
  • Starting from 13 July 2022, teachers can log in to the STAR platform to verify if the assessment materials are properly distributed according to the name of the assessment materials and the information of students;
  • Note: Teachers can only preview content of the assessment materials from 8:00 am onwards on the assessment day.

Please click the following link to view the user guide of checking assessment materials.

B. Students do the assessments

  • During the time slot in the lesson arranged by the teacher, students can log in to the STAR platform, go to the ‘Assessment resources 2022’ tab page, locate and access the assigned assessment materials by its name, and click ‘Attempt’ to start the assessment;
  • If your school intends to carry out listening assessments by centralised broadcasting, teachers can use the paper preview function to play the audio files in lesson. Please click here for details.

C. View students’ submission status

  • Teachers can view students’ real-time submission status (including number of answered questions, students’ answers and submission time) in the ‘Quick Report’, so as to avoid situations such as when a student submits an unfinished assessment by mistake;
  • In case of mistaken submission by a student (e.g. when a student has clicked the ‘submit’ button by mistake before finishing the assessment), teachers can reset the submission status on the day of assessment for the student to continue with the assessment. Please notify the HKEAA if such arrangements have been made. Please note: this function can only be applied on the day of the assessment (till 6:00 pm).
